Is a career in aesthetics a risk worth taking?
“I want to leave the NHS.” For many established aesthetics practitioners this is an all too common phrase that we hear from our colleagues. The NHS is on its knees, moral is low and pay is stagnant. Many medical professionals are looking to get out but to do what and go where?
Many are seeking out a career in aesthetics but are they choosing the speciality for the right reasons? The popularity of medical aesthetics has really gained pace over the last few years. Many medics are leaving the NHS and heading into aesthetics with the hopes of a lucrative and outwardly ‘glamorous’ career.
I’m sure you’d agree that whilst having an aesthetics business can mean greater earning potential and flexibility it is also HARD WORK. The constant messages, thousands of pounds of investment on courses, start up costs, sleepless nights, complications management, social media manager, customer service, being the cleaner, counsellor, accountant, stock taker, sales rep, administrator all whilst trying to keep a home, raise children and be a good partner, husband and wife. It’s not for the faint hearted and can take years of consistent hard graft to reach an income that is stable and consistent. It can be lonely, competition is high and the grey areas are vast.
However it can also be an extremely fulfilling role. I have learnt so much about myself and others during my journey; I’ve met friends for life, I’ve pushed myself and I have drive that I would never have found in my NHS role.
If you have a love for people and are passionate about making others feel good and learning regenerative medicine then make that jump, all the hard work and sleepless nights will be worth it.
If you’ve made that leap of faith already I’m keen to know what prompted your jump?
